The Jiu Jitsu E-mail Newsletter

What up Flowrollers! It’s a great day to take a 6 month long post training nap, then fire back up that ol’ e-mail newsletter you’ve been procrastinating on 😆

I missed you guys. Thanks for your patience while I took a bit of a recharge… We’re back, baby 💪

Alright let’s get to it, slap-and-bump 👊🏻

THE MAIN EVENT 🚨

The talk of the Jiu Jitsu world right now is ADCC vs CJI. In case you’ve been living under a rock, ADCC is traditionally referred to as “the Olympics of grappling” and has occurred every 2 years for the past few decades.

Well, chronic ADCC silver medalist Craig Jones has a bone to pick with them… athlete prize money hasn’t increased at all, despite massive growth for the sport of the Jiu Jitsu and ADCC as an event.

So Craig launched his own tournament (with the help of a secret backer, to the tune of $3 million): the Craig Jones Invitational, or CJI.

CJI is paying athletes $10,001 just to show up, a not-so-subtle jab at ADCC’s first place prize money of $10,000. First place for each of the mens’ divisions (under 80kg and over 80kg) is a massive $1 million.

There are also some big superfights brewing:

  • Ffion Davies vs Mackenzie Dern

  • Gabi Garcia vs Craig Jones 🤣

  • Mikey Musumeci vs ???

The grappling world seems pretty split on this one… some athletes are remaining loyal to ADCC, while others are jumping ship to chase the huge prize pools at CJI.

Which event do you think comes out on top?
