🥋 Jiu Jitsu Destroyed His Body

Plus: how to escape Kesa Gatame.

The Jiu Jitsu E-mail Newsletter

What up Flowrollers, it’s a great day to convince your significant other that the living room is the perfect place for drilling berimbolos.

In our last poll, you all made it clear that in a high level competition it’s on the athlete to CLEARLY tap or the ref to step in and stop the match:

I totally agree. That brawl was uncalled for, and I thought the winning athlete applied the heel hook with very reasonable restraint.

Flowroller Lucas made a great point that there is also a mental/physical delay between feeling a tap, and actually being able to unwind yourself from a leg lock:

Alright let’s get to it, slap-and-bump 👊🏻

THE MAIN EVENT 🚨

There’s a YouTube video titled “Jiu Jitsu Saved My Life but Destroyed My Body” that went absolutely viral in the past month.

In it, a purple belt web developer named Dorian talks about his history training Jiu Jitsu and how in his eyes he’s one injury away from calling it quits.

It’s definitely worth a watch, and it’s already picked up nearly a million views:

Many people are fond of saying “Jiu Jitsu saved my life.” Even if I don’t agree with Dorian’s take, I appreciate hearing some pushback on the topic.

I’ve been through my fair share of Jiu Jitsu injuries. Personally I can relate more to Chewjitsu’s philosophy of I don’t want to go into the ground with perfectly intact ACLs.

Have you felt like quitting Jiu Jitsu due to injuries (or fear of them)?
