What up Flowrollers, it’s a great day to drop into class looking like a mummy due to your pre-training tape job.

Alright let’s get to it, slap-and-bump 👊🏻

THE MAIN EVENT 🚨

Earlier this month, competing Jiu Jitsu tournaments ADCC and CJI took Las Vegas by storm. It turned out to be the most epic weekend in grappling history, and here are our biggest takeaways:

  1. Pit walls rule! CJI used angled pit walls instead of a traditional out of bounds area. This kept the action going and nearly eliminated referee interference. ADCC on the other hand kept resetting matches in center mat over and over.

  2. Kaynan Duarte is a BEAST. His run to ADCC double gold, with 7 out of 8 submissions, was the most impressive performance we’ve ever seen at ADCC. And yes, that includes Gordon Ryan’s championship runs.

  3. Judge scoring with multiple rounds was… interesting. Positive overall we think! It forced the action when an athlete would lose a round (and be aware of it), and led to some absolutely insane matches like this one featuring Andrew Tackett vs Kade Ruotolo”

TECHNIQUE CORNER 🧠

Today’s technique is a brand new one from Tristar coach Zahabi, where he shows how you can turn a failed heel hook attempt into a guard pass. I love this one. The worst part about going for leg locks is getting punished with bottom position, it’s nice to have a “bail out” plan that gets you back on top.

MEME SWEEP 🧹

That’s a wrap. Go train!
