🥋 Why Is BJJ So Hard To Master?

Plus: how to nail Instagram's flashiest Jiu Jitsu submissions.

The Jiu Jitsu E-mail Newsletter

What up Flowrollers, it’s a great day to maintain a poker face while getting smashed in Knee-on-Belly.

In our last poll, I learned that almost two thirds of Flowrollers have considered switching gyms when they feel like a better experience is waiting for them somewhere else:

I'm loyal to my current gym, valuing the bond and environment. However, I understand that competitive individuals might seek new training camps for growth.

A fellow Flowroller highlighted the importance of evaluating a gym objectively. While we naturally form bonds, if the environment becomes unfavorable, it might be time to consider a change.

Alright let’s get to it, slap-and-bump 👊🏻

THE MAIN EVENT 🚨

Ever felt the white belt learning curve was steep and slow to climb? A recent Reddit discussion delved into this, debating whether we often expect rapid progress due to inherent talent or sheer hard work.

Starting in Jiu Jitsu gives an advantage to those with prior grappling experience. But lack of this foundation doesn't mean you can't excel.

The true challenge of Jiu Jitsu is the commitment it demands. Many overthink the process, struggling with motivation and discipline as they face setbacks on the mat.

While talent helps, and I've seen novices display impressive instincts during their initial rolls, it's only a starting point. Relying solely on raw talent won't cut it. Eventually, everyone must invest time in honing technique.

Have you ever been discouraged by how HARD it is to get good at Jiu Jitsu?
